You can run, but you can't hide
If you buy flowers or anything else online, it has probably crossed your mind that you do not really know this vendor the way you know your local gas station or bank tellers or grocery store. Many online operations are shady and some are downright fraudulent. With all of that in mind, why should you trust your florist?
Maybe they're a scam. Or maybe they're somewhat legit but won't deliver the quality that you're paying for. Maybe some kid will get your order and run to the grocery store and try to pass off some cheap grocery store boquet as your luxury arrangement.
Okay, that scenario is pretty far-fetched, but we live in a time when consumers cannot be too careful.
The website floristdetective.com was established to help consumers sort through the scams, hype, and other confusion in the online marketplace for flowers. It’s a great site, and we recommend you check it out.
Before you get too much up in arms, remember that many extremely honest, reputable businesses do business on the Internet today. In fact, you have to in many industries. On top of that, the Internet has a way of policing itself. Deal with an online enterprise that's been around a lot of years and you can be reasonably confident that these guys have lived up to their word for many years (or nobody would be dealing with them).
If you're doing business with a major organization or one that you have dealt with satisfactorily before, you're in good shape. You can still check out the detective site, but you have the luxury of confidence in your merchant.
If you're dealing with a new organization or one that you don't know at all, do your due diligence. If you get any bad vibes or suspicions come up, find another vendor. The Internet has plenty to offer and there's no reason for you to enter into any business relationship with qualms.
Be careful, but know that there are many, many reputable and upstanding merchants out there!
